SEL Enhances the SEL-734 Revenue Meter
SEL recently added new hardware and software configurations for the SEL-734 Revenue Metering System. These include the following:
Time-of-Use (TOU) Software Addition
The TOU software is a major upgrade to the SEL-734 capabilities. This software comes standard with every SEL-734, and users can easily access TOU data through ACSELERATOR® QuickSet™ SEL-5030 Software.
TOU features include:
- 6 rate types
- 10 day types
- 4 accumulation calculations
- 40 schedules
- 4 seasons
- 20-year schedule
- 300 calendar entries
SEL-734 Hardware Enhancements
The SEL-734 now ships standard with two EIA-232 ports, a 24/48 Vdc power supply option, and more robust EMC performance.
Second EIA-232 Port
The second standard EIA-232 port replaces the optional fiber-optic port (Port 2) of the SEL-734. This port allows more flexible communication for customers who have varying serial and fiber-optic needs, such as external modems and SEL-3022 Wireless Encrypting Transceivers. SEL recommends using SEL-28xx Fiber-Optic Transceivers to replace applications that previously used the SEL-734 fiber-optic port.
Low-Voltage DC Power Supply Option
The SEL-734 is now available with a 24/48 Vdc power supply option. Power supply upgrade kits are also available for customers who would like to convert their existing SEL-734 power supplies.
Increased Surge Immunity
SEL designed the original SEL-734 power supply for 4 kV surge immunity. The SEL-734 now withstands surge events up to 6 kV per ANSI C12.20 Test 17.
Rugged Cables
SEL offers rugged, R-Series cables to customers who operate their devices in electrically noisy environments. Through improved shielding and grounding, the R-Series cables reduce interference that may result in data loss. The following R-Series cables are now available:

- C287R
SEL-734 Base Price Increase
SEL has increased the base price of the SEL-734 from $1,444 to $1,594. Pricing of optional equipment did not change.
SEL-734 Model Option Table (MOT) Changes
The MOT changed to reflect the additional EIA-232 port and the new 24/48 Vdc power supply option.
