Q:

What certifications does the SEL-734 have?

A:

The SEL-734 is fully ANSI C12.20:2004 compliant, fully IEC 62052-11:2003 and 62053-22:2003 compliant, and has Underwriters Laboratories (UL), CE, and CSA approvals.

Q:

How can I tell if the meter I just purchased is ANSI C12.20 compliant?

A:

All SEL-734 meters are ANSI C12.20 compliant after, and including serial number 2007290001. If you have a question about your meter, please call the Meter Support Line at +1.509.334.8793.

Q:

What communication options are available?

A:

There are various options for communicating with the SEL-734. The meter
communications ports consist of the following:

An optional communications card is available for the SEL-734, allowing selection of an internal telephone modem. For a list of modem-related settings and definitions, see Table 10.2 in the SEL-734 Instruction Manual.

Q:

What is the difference between current classes CL2, CL10, and CL20?

A:

The SEL-734 offers three options for current class, CL 2, CL10 or CL20. In April 2008, SEL introduced a new option for ANSI CL2 and IEC 1A Inom current class. This low current option is implemented using a different current sensing card. Using this new card, the SEL-734 exceeds ANSI 0.2 Class accuracy from 10 mA to 6A. The existing CL10/CL20 hardware is identical for both classes, therefore, a CL10 meter will accurately and safely meter up to the CL20 meter rating of 20 amperes. The only difference between the SEL-734 CL10 and SEL-734 CL20 is the configuration label on the front panel.

Q:

Which meter “forms” does the SEL-734 support?

A:

The SEL-734 is available in a Form 9 (four-wire wye) or Form 5 (three-wire delta).

Q:

Can I change meters forms in the field?

A:

Yes. The SEL-734 hardware supports both Form 9 (four-wire wye) and Form 5 (three-wire delta). Change meter forms by downloading form-specific firmware to the SEL-734. For more informaiton on form-specific firmware, please contact your Customer Service Representative.

Q:

Does the SEL-734 provide power quality monitoring?

A:

Yes. The SEL-734 monitors and records voltage sags/swells/interruptions and harmonics, and provides waveform capture and sequential events recording.

Q:

Is the SEL-734 compatible with MV-90 software?

A:

The SEL-734 is compatible with MV-90 over serial, modem and Ethernet networks. Please contact Itron for the SEL-734-specific TIM, and follow the instructions in the Application Guide: MV-90 Integration with an SEL-734, which presents an example of how to configure an SEL-734 Meter to function with the Itron MV-90® meter reading software.

Q:

Why are some materials on this website access-restricted?

A:

Customers have expressed concerns that cyber intruders could use software and the detailed technical information available in SEL instruction manuals and application guides to disrupt their operations. After careful consideration, we have reduced access to this information for people who are unknown to us, while at the same time continuing to provide easy access for legitimate users of our information. Registering for the password-restricted portion of our website takes only a minute. At SEL, we share our customers' concerns for security, and this registration is just one of the ways that we are helping customers improve security.
